Artist spot: Peggy Dean

The fab Peggy Dean

For july I did a small series of artist spots where amazing artists shared how they began their art journey. The final artist in this round is one of the very big ones so I saved her for August. I absolutely love and adore Peggy who I am proud to call my creative coach. She is absolutely fab and here she shares her own artistic journey.

How long have you been painting?

I dabbled in acrylics when I was about 19, but it wasn't until about 3 years ago that I picked up watercolors and fell in love all over again!

Why did you start?

To be honest, art saved me from some poor choices in coping mechanisms. I used to be a reckless, impulsive decision maker. One night, I decided to choose a more wholesome route. I sat down on my couch and started painting aimlessly and it totally changed my life.

What to you is the best about painting and creating art?

I love that art is a mindful experience but in a completely mindless way. You can let the busyness of life go and channel your attention into something beautiful that you can be proud of.

Advice or great resources for beginners?

Be kind to the process. Your art never sucks. It's simply blooming.
